Interview With Polecats' Drummer John Buck

4th of October 2005

Gordon  I’ll answer these myself and get the others to add any relevant comments that may apply directly to them.

What are your day jobs? I work with architects specifying solar shading for office buildings (mostly in London)

Does playing today feel as good as it did when you started? Yeah it still feels good, a little less pressure as now it’s just for fun.

How much does it cost to get the Polecats to play? Depends on where, when, if Tim is already here or if we have to fly him in for one show.

How much longer do you see yourselves performing? As long as it still feels good and people want to see us

What is your favourite Polecats song? Probably “Little Pig”, although “John I’m Only Dancing” holds a lot of memories for me.

Does Boz still have a thing about lard? It’s a band thing

Are you still big in Japan? Hope so, we’re going there on 1st Nov for 5 shows

Do you have plans to do any recording in the near future? We’ve been talking about it this week and will go over some ideas when we see Boz in Japan

Is the complete Polecats “Bring out your dead” set ever going to be released? Maybe!

What was your most memorable gig? The one supporting Jerry Lee at the Hammersmith Odeon (as was) in ‘83 was great but some of the later ones in Japan have been mad

Why is the “Nine” album so called? It’s another band thing

Were you surprised at the turnout at Dingwalls last month? Yeah I was, it made us all keen to do more UK shows

Who are the best and worst audiences and why? Japanese audiences are funny, very quiet during the set then go mad at the end, but you can’t beat a good London crowd

Do you have any plans for more UK gigs in the foreseeable future? After Sheffield and Japan Tim goes home to LA, but we have already had calls about gigs next year.

Where can we get Polecats merchandise? We have t-shirts available and some photos, and we have been talking making them available on a web site possibly along with a down loadable album

Do you still rehearse before going on a series of gigs ? If so for how long? As we have done most of the recent shows with Andy Neal playing guitar we did have one rehearsal the day before the Sweden show, it was at the studio we used to use 20 years ago so it was more for the trip down memory lane than anything else.

Are you  happy with my website so far? Yeah it’s great, when I get any more pics from other gigs through I’ll send them to you to post on it.

Obviously your musical influences could have changed over the years, if so who are they now? Mostly still the same, old rockabilly with a bit of glam rock chucked in.
